LCD Soundsystem - Drunk Girls
Um... yeah... so...
I don't really know what to say about this video. The whole thing actually kinda disturbed me more than anything. I mean, I get the concept and LCD Soundsystem has always pushed the envelope, but the overall effect of the video for "Drunk Girls" off of their upcoming This is Happening, is, well, sort of unsettling. The beginning of the video more or less has the random pandas pulling harmless pranks, then they increase in aggression and overall creepiness overtime. I dunno about you, but when they hulled the backup vocalist into the backroom and had a random woman screaming violently in the background, it got weird. I guess that the video lives up to the name "this is happening" pretty well. Also, the song really isn't all that great, LCD has had much better work in the past.
So, overall, I think this is my first bad review.

A lot of fans have been giving Drunk Girls thumbs down. I'm going to have to disagree with you. I actually like the song and I think the video is pretty brilliant. I didn't find it unsettling at all. Maybe I'm just desensitized!
ReplyDeleteI'm probably not nearly as familiar with their work as you are though.
I can't tell if it is the video or the song that I don't like. I am going to have to invest more time in figuring LCD System out, I really stopped paying attention to their work after Sound of Silver. It seems they may have changed/matured into their sound a little more.
ReplyDeletePlus, I was tired and grumpy on first viewing. I haven't heard the song independent of the music video, so it may actually be better without the distracting pandas...
